About the Department

About Our Department

The department endeavors to be at the forefront of agro-industrial development of the nation through training of intellectually and practically competent graduates in food science and technology to cater for national and regional needs.  We are proactive in engaging with the relevant public and private sector players so as to create sustainable environment for industrial growth through value addition of agricultural products in Kenya.  In the course of training, our graduates acquire practical competence through practical attachment to food manufacturing factories and industrial visits. Our upcoming ultramodern food processing pilot plants will also provide excellent practical and innovative experiences for our students and staff.

The facility will also offer teaching, training and research opportunities for the community through the formation of strategic partnerships with stakeholders in the food value-addition sub-sector, thus contributing to the Kenya government’s goals of improving food security and manufacturing as part of the ‘Big four agenda’.
